As someone who watches calories closely, I almost died when I started reading the amount of calories that some foods that are marketed as "healthy alternatives" contained. For example, granola and granola bars are both typically high in calories and fat. Just as you said, it is important to read the nutritional label of all foods before eating them. Even though they are called "Healthy" or "Whole Grain" or "Trans-Fat Free" does not mean they are low calorie, low fat, or have any added health benefits.

Re: A Raw Recipe for Raw Food Health

Looks good. However, that does not make allowances for the incompetence of its current employees.
Mexico also should not be protected from blame for their tainted products.

Re: Do You Know These Ginger Remedies?

Mark,
Great information on ginger! I absolutely love ginger and have a fresh ginger tea every night. I get light-headed from sinus problems and ginger helps me a lot. What I normally do is to get fresh ginger, wash it good, cut it into pieces, and boil it. I make a full pot of the tea and when it cools off, I refrigerate it so that I have it all week. Great stuff and has many medicinal properties!
Diana

Re: The Secret Benefactor in Strawberries

Just Love Stawberries and had them for breakfast- It is strawberry time here so I am in heaven one of my favorite fruits after rasberries and mangoes
Great info Mark

Re: Dark Chocolate Sales Increase

A very good observation and recommendation, eat less Chocolate. The $ is their main concern and unfortunately it is happening in many other countries too. Great article

Re: China Food Risk

Really deplorable conditions in the food exportation from China, we really need to consider whether "cheaper" foods are indeed healthy at all. From the tainted dog food to human food I will not buy any food produced in China, as their standards are much lower and not inspected by North American importers.

Re: Salmonella and Other Food Borne Illnesses

Never thought I would see the day that I could get salmonella from eating vegetables.
The FDA still will not say where the tainted tomatos came from but I suspect Florida
and Mexico where they are grown is a good place to start.

Re: Water Filtering Products

What evil lurks in the water these days, its just not safe anymore.

Re: Peppers

I suspect that if you were a grower, you would see more hues with peppers on the plant. However I would think for selling, only the best quality solid coloured, free from imperfections, and well shaped peppers would be selected.

Re: Peppers

Now I never knew that! Interesting how you seldom see a pepper (at least in the shops) that is "turning" from one colour to the next. They tend to be totally, red, yellow or green. And what about the occasional orange one? - Are they closer to red than yellow - asn interim stage?
